ARTISANS OF PRÍNCIPE

Crafted by Príncipe

Every handcrafted piece tells two stories: one of the artisan who created it, and another of the island that inspired it.

Across Príncipe, talented makers transform recycled glass, reclaimed wood and vibrant textiles into objects that celebrate the island’s creativity, culture and natural beauty. Many of these initiatives have been nurtured through training, equipment and ongoing support from HBD Príncipe and the Príncipe Collection’s Conservation and Communities Contribution (CCC), helping artisans develop new skills, preserve traditional craftsmanship and build sustainable livelihoods.

The stories that follow introduce the people behind the pieces. Meet the women and men whose hands, imagination and dedication turn local materials into meaningful keepsakes, allowing every purchase to support not only exceptional craftsmanship, but the communities that make Príncipe so special.

Turning Glass into Opportunity

Bela and Zinha, Cooperativa de Valorização dos Resíduos (CVR)

Where most people see waste, Bela and Zinha see possibility. In their workshop, discarded bottles are given a second life as colourful jewellery, and the island is left a little cleaner for it.

Stitching a Brighter Future

Mana and The Tailors of Sundy & Terra Prometida

For Mana, a tailoring course became an unexpected opportunity that transformed her life. Today she works in vibrant African fabrics, with her own income and immense pride in every piece she makes.

The Art of Second Chances

Flávia’s Inovarte

For Flávia, every empty bottle is an opportunity waiting to be discovered. What others see as waste, she shapes into glasses, jugs and bowls, made with her own hands and with love.

Turning Wood into Works of Art

Ivo the Artisan at Terra Prometida

For Ivo, every piece of wood has a story waiting to be told. Working slowly and by hand, he carves offcuts destined for the firewood pile into one-of-a-kind birds, masks and decorative objects.

Their creations can be found in the boutiques across our hotels and, soon, at Casa Verde.

If you would like to learn more about the makers or arrange a visit to one of the workshops during your stay, our team will be delighted to help whenever possible.
