The Cacao Route

Discover the story of Príncipe’s cacao on a guided walk through one of the island’s historic plantations. Surrounded by lush forest, learn how cacaueiro trees are carefully cultivated and harvested, and how this treasured crop shaped the island’s history. Visit the drying terraces to see how the beans begin their transformation before concluding the experience at the chocolate factory at Roça Sundy, where the island’s chocolate is crafted following a traditional bean-to-bar process. The experience ends with a tasting of locally produced cacao specialties.
